Israeli Palestinian talks, indirect or direct, will inevitably fail because Israel WILL NOT EVER give East Jerusalem to the Palestinians. Our presence there, believing some master stroke of diplomacy will change this fact, is a waste of time and money. Gaza and the West Bank, okay, even the Israelis know that practicality must prevail. That I can see. But one can forget East Jerusalem becoming the capitol of a Palestinian state. Rather begin the talks on that singular issue, and all will see how pointless are the talks. They might as well have all out war now and get it over with, our shuttle diplomacy is just wishful thinking.
